Honoring the Beauty, Joy, and Love of the Lucky Few on World Down Syndrome Day
Each year on World Down Syndrome Day, people around the world come together to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome and the incredible joy they bring to families, communities, and the world.
The date—March 21 (3/21)—was chosen intentionally. It represents the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which is what causes Down syndrome. On this day, families, friends, educators, and advocates raise awareness, share stories, and celebrate the beauty of a community that reminds us all what unconditional love truly looks like.
For many families, including those who lovingly refer to themselves as part of “the Lucky Few,” this day is deeply personal.

Within the Down syndrome community, the phrase “the Lucky Few” is often used as a joyful reminder that families who have a loved one with Down syndrome have been given a unique and beautiful perspective on life.
Children with Down syndrome often teach the world lessons that cannot be learned anywhere else:
Love without conditions
Joy in the smallest moments
Genuine kindness and connection
The beauty of celebrating differences
Families frequently describe their children as the heart of their homes, bringing laughter, empathy, and a deep sense of togetherness.
World Down Syndrome Day is also about increasing awareness and advocating for inclusion. People with Down syndrome are students, artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, friends, siblings, and leaders. They deserve the same opportunities to learn, grow, work, and thrive as anyone else.
Across the globe on March 21, communities celebrate by:
Wearing mismatched or colorful socks to spark conversations
Sharing stories and photos online
Hosting school and community events
Supporting organizations that advocate for individuals with Down syndrome
Celebrating the amazing individuals who make our world brighter
Every small act of awareness helps create a more inclusive and understanding world.
As a photographer who believes deeply in preserving childhood memories, I’m constantly reminded how important it is to celebrate every child exactly as they are.
Every giggle, every curious glance, every joyful moment deserves to be remembered.
Children with Down syndrome bring such warmth, authenticity, and light into the world—and capturing those moments through portraits is one small way to celebrate the beauty of who they are and the love that surrounds them.
Photography has the power to preserve these moments so families can look back years from now and remember the magic of childhood exactly as it was.
Today we send a special hello to all of the incredible families who are part of the Lucky Few.
Your children are extraordinary.
And Your stories matter.
Thank you for sharing your joy, your strength, and your beautiful families with the world.
Happy World Down Syndrome Day. 💛💙
