Spring in North Carolina always feels a little magical.
The peach blossoms arrive, the wildflowers begin to bloom, the weather softens, and suddenly families start making their favorite seasonal traditions again. One of my favorite traditions to photograph year after year is strawberry picking.
There is just something about little red rain boots walking through endless green rows, tiny hands reaching for berries, and children becoming completely lost in the joy of exploring.
This year’s strawberry sessions at Eno River Farm were full of those little moments.
As parents, we often remember the big milestones.
Birthdays. First days of school. Graduations.
But childhood is really built from smaller moments.
Sticky fingers. Tiny boots. Giggles. Picking strawberries and proudly carrying a basket that may only contain three berries.
Those are the memories that quietly become some of our favorites.
Watching children experience simple joy—walking through rows of strawberries, proudly finding one tiny berry, sneaking a taste before it reaches the basket—feels like stepping back into childhood yourself.
These sessions reminded me again that children do not need elaborate experiences.
They simply need space to explore.
Eno River Farms offers one of those timeless North Carolina settings that instantly feels nostalgic.
Long rows of strawberries stretch across the fields while spring greens seem to go on forever.
For photos, the location creates something that feels simple and beautiful.
No distractions. No elaborate setup.
Just children, families, and a real experience together.
And honestly, some of the best images happen when no one is trying too hard.
Strawberry Picking Eno River Farms can be a family tradition for your family too!
The best part of these sessions is that children lead the way.
Some proudly show off every strawberry they find.
Some hug their baskets.
Some sneak little bites.
Some stop and simply take in the world around them.
And those little in-between moments become favorites.
A tiny expression. A thoughtful pause. A smile that lasts half a second.
Those are the photographs parents treasure years later.
I always love photographing the children, but I love seeing parents step into the memories too.
One day children will not remember every detail.
But they will remember who picked strawberries with them.
Who carried them. Who laughed. Who walked beside them.
Photos preserve those moments.
One of my favorite things from these sessions was watching personalities shine.
A serious face. A funny expression. A tiny hand proudly holding up a berry.
Real childhood is wonderfully imperfect.
That is where the magic lives.
Spring sessions always arrive quickly and disappear even faster.
If you have been thinking about documenting your family this season, now is the perfect time.
Wildflowers, riverside sessions, lakeside evenings, summer sunsets, and all the little moments in between are waiting.
Because one day these tiny boots become bigger shoes.
And these ordinary days become memories.
